Before uploading, you should re-save your images for the web. Many camera images are several megabytes in size and saving for the web will dramatically reduce the size. Most image manipulation programs have suitable options for this E.g.
- Photoshop: File > “Save for web”
- Corel: Paint Shop Pro: File -> Export -> Jpeg Optimizer. Choose compression settings to make the image smaller (in kB).
Images you upload may be resized and cropped by the website to fit into some forms of content. Re-sizing isn’t a problem, but if the aspect ration of your picture is different from that of the space where it will be displayed, it will be cropped. (For example. the local image on the home page, or the thumbnails in the gallery at the bottom of the home page are at fixed sizes). The image shown on the actual image page though, will be the same aspect ratio as your original.
To create an image page:
- Add the title: (single line input field). This is only used for admin purposes
- Select an image to upload. (file and image upload)
- Write a description of the image (WYSIWYG editor)
- Assign the image to an image gallery (multiple selection). To avoid abandoning the creation process if there is not a suitable gallery, choose a temporary image gallery and come back and revise the setting after you create the new gallery.
